By quantifying the release of reactive nitrogen (a generic term for nitrogen compounds other than molecular nitrogen) into the environment as a result of human activities, using the Nitrogen Footprint Index, consumer behavior and environmental issues (nitrogen compounds This research aims to link environmental pollution, eutrophication, global warming, biodiversity degradation, etc.) to achieve both sustainable use of food and energy and environmental conservation.

Professor Hideaki Shibata Field Science Center for Northern Biosphere has clarified the current situation of the nitrogen footprint per consumer in Japan for the first time in Japan. We continue to conduct joint research both in Japan and overseas.
