The project is referred to as DRINK, an acronym which stands for Demonstration and Risk-based Implementation of New lead remediation approach in Kabwe. The project intends to contribute towards the settlement of the lead pollution in Kabwe, a city in the Republic of Zambia. Simulation studies will be conducted to determine appropriate methods for environmental remediation in the region and what kind of lead pollution to expect in the future. We will also create a system for follow-up studies after conducting treatments to reduce the lead body-burden of the residents. Furthermore, based on a previous study that revealed that exposure to lead-contaminated dust was one of the causes of lead poisoning, greening is a measure that can help minimize exposure. Therefore, we are aiming to build greening parks that will serve as monitoring sites near lead ore deposits.
