Associate Professor Masato Kawai

Affiliation: Field Science Center for Northern Biosphere

If you are interested, I recommend this subject! :Animal husbandry

Message: Of course, it is important to go to university with what you want to do, but on the other hand, university is also an environment where you can see and hear about various fields. My specialty is animal husbandry, but I also collaborate with professors who research trees, botanical gardens, and insects and wild animals. We are conducting research on the appropriate way to raise livestock. The appeal of field science is that you can expand your learning to a wide range of fields, rather than just narrowly focusing on a specialized field. I want them to expand their range of knowledge while focusing on their own dreams.

Professor Kawai's research is introduced in ``Raising herbivorous animals on grass - a livestock production system called ``grazing''''. *Move to Yume Navi.

*The above articles introduce articles and videos currently posted on YumeNavi. Professor Kawai's research is also introduced in the web project ``Research Times'' Knowledge Field below.

Hokkaido University has research fields in various locations, not just the Sapporo and Hakodate campuses. Shizunai Research Farm, located in Shinhidaka town, about 150km from Sapporo, is one of them. About 70% of the Shizunai Research Ranch, which stretches 3.5 km from north to south and 1.5 km from east to west, is covered in forest, and approximately 150 cows and 100 horses are raised in forests and pastures within the forest. A researcher stationed here, Masato Kawai (Associate Professor Field Science Center for Northern Biosphere), ranch manager, is researching livestock production that takes advantage of this natural environment.
