What led me to study: Due to family circumstances, I decided to attend a university based on the science department that I could attend from home. The classes I took in my third year at university were so interesting that I joined the ocean physics laboratory. In my master's program, I researched how large-scale wave movements across the Pacific Ocean are related to seasonal fluctuations in the tropics. After that, I got a job once, but I decided that research was more rewarding for me, so I went on to a doctoral program. While studying both the atmosphere and ocean, I found research that aims to discover things through data analysis to be very interesting, and I have been enjoying research ever since.
Professor Minobu's research is introduced in ``Hear the heartbeat of the sea and sky! Data analysis of the atmosphere and ocean.'' *Move to Yume Navi.

To understand climate change, we also need to understand the interactions between the atmosphere and ocean. Then, it can be determined whether the observed changes are due to natural fluctuations or human activities. Professor Shoshiro Minobu (Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences Faculty of Science of Science), who was selected as one of the "1000 most influential environmental scientists in the world" announced by Reuters in May 2021, has been selected as one of the "1000 most influential environmental scientists in the world" announced by Reuters. We asked him about his research.
