The Hokkaido Headquarters of the United Nations Association of Japan and Hokkaido will hold a "United Nations Day Commemoration Lecture" on October 24th. At this lecture, Professor Hiroshi Higashiyama of Research Faculty of Agriculture of our university is scheduled to give a lecture entitled ``SDGs and Hokkaido Agriculture''.

October 24th, the day the United Nations Charter came into force, is United Nations Day, an opportunity for people around the world to celebrate peace and friendship between nations and reflect on the challenges they face. The Hokkaido Headquarters of the United Nations Association holds lectures for Hokkaido residents every year with the aim of disseminating and enlightening the United Nations philosophy.
This year's theme is "Facing the world and Hokkaido's food issues."
This year is the International Year of Millet, designated by the United Nations. Normally, we have easy access to nutritious and safe food, but many people in other countries do not have this access. Why not use the International Year of Millets as an opportunity to learn about the current situation of the world and Hokkaido, and think about what we can do?

This lecture will also include an awards ceremony for the 32nd Essay Contest for International Understanding and Cooperation for elementary and junior high school students, and a lecture by Eriko Hibi, Director of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Liaison Office in Japan.
