Institute for the Advancement of Sustainability of Hokkaido University will offer an introductory course on carbon accounting, in collaboration with the Japan Carbon Accounting Advisors Association, for students and working professionals from August 5th (Wed) to 7th (Fri), 2026. Additional applications for this course will be accepted until July 31st.
In recent years, as addressing climate change has become an international challenge, there is an urgent need to "visualize" greenhouse gas emissions at the corporate, local government, and national levels.
This course, "Introduction to Carbon Accounting," aims to teach the basic concepts, methods, and international frameworks (GHG Protocol, ISO standards, etc.) of carbon accounting, and to equip students with practical knowledge for building a sustainable society.
Carbon accounting is not merely an environmental management method; it is an important tool that influences business strategy, policy making, and investment decisions.
In this course, in addition to theoretical frameworks, students will develop their ability to apply carbon accounting through case studies of actual companies and local governments. The aim is to cultivate the ability of students, regardless of their academic background (science or humanities), who are interested in environmental issues to contribute to solving social problems through carbon accounting.
