The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's "Project to Strengthen the Global Competitiveness of Universities" (selected in FY2020: Support for the Formation of Inter-University Exchanges with African Countries) has conducted a post-project evaluation, and Hokkaido University's selected program, "International Veterinary Medicine and Conservation Medicine Education Program to Cultivate the Next Generation of Human Resources to Bridging Africa and Japan - Based on the Achievements of the Brain Circulation between Zambia and Hokkaido University (IVCMEP Program)," was the only program among the eight evaluated to receive the highest rating of "S."
The program was praised for several reasons, including the fact that it provides Hokkaido University students with the opportunity to experience conservation medicine practices under infectious diseases and environmental pollution conditions that they would not encounter in Japan, while simultaneously accepting students from the University of Zambia to conduct cutting-edge conservation medicine training, thus guaranteeing an invaluable experience for both sides; and for ensuring multiple channels of continuous exchange between students from both universities, such as former host students supporting the following year's dispatched students, thereby realizing a reciprocal and cyclical approach to human resource development.
Hokkaido University has applied for and been selected for the "Global Nexus in Sub-Saharan Africa: Opening the Way to Future Wellbeing with One Health" program under the "Project to Strengthen the Global Competitiveness of Universities (Support for the Formation of Inter-University Exchanges with Global South Countries) Type II: African Countries" in FY2025. We will continue to aim to cultivate globally active human resources and strengthen the global capabilities of university education.
