Hakodate City, Hokkaido University, the Hakodate Regional Industry Promotion Foundation, and the Hakodate International Fisheries and Marine City Promotion Organization will hold a public organized session, "Hakodate Mariculture Project Results Reporting Session," at the 23rd Annual Conference of the Society for Industry-Academia Collaboration on June 20th.

The Hakodate Mariculture Project is an initiative that aims to realize a sustainable fisheries and marine city by promoting complete aquaculture techniques for king salmon and kombu, as well as a pioneering initiative that contributes to regional carbon neutrality (RCN) by absorbing CO2 emitted by fish farming through seaweed farming, forming an aquaculture industry cluster in the region, and attracting companies and young people through practical on-site education and research, and having them settle in the region.

This report session will share the progress and results to date with local residents and other stakeholders, and will also introduce this project as one of the case studies at the 23rd Hakodate Conference of the Japan Society for Industrial Collaboration, which brings together industry-academia collaboration practitioners from across the country. It will also be an opportunity to think together about the creation of an aquaculture industry and the ideal form of a sustainable fisheries and marine city.
