"HU Constellation Program"
Hokkaido University will implement the "HU Constellation Program (HU Constellation)" from fiscal year 2026 as a new initiative. This program will consolidate various educational programs scattered throughout the university, which are designed to provide knowledge, versatility, and practical skills that complement specialized education, into a large framework called the "HU Constellation Program," making them visible as a unified framework for the university. The aim is to clearly show students the themes and areas that we want them to learn as "specialization + α," and to encourage proactive and broad learning. Below is an overview of the "Sustainability Program," an educational program of the HU Constellation.
"Sustainability Program"
Based on Hokkaido University's "University Philosophies" (Frontier Spirit, Global Perspectives, All-Round Education, Practical Learning) and "HU VISION 2030 (pursuit of sustainability)," we cultivate the next generation of talent who will become "creators of a sustainable society" by acquiring expertise in their respective academic fields, learning through interdisciplinary educational programs, and participating in social co-creation opportunities. This will enable them to develop the following four abilities (literacy, skills, and mindset) and put them into practice.
Abilities that can be acquired
- Sustainability Literacy (Basic Knowledge and Application Skills for SDGs and Sustainability)
- Communication skills (communication, teamwork, leadership)
- Sustainable social design capabilities (creativity and a challenging spirit to co-create a diverse and sustainable well-being society)
- Social ethics (the ability to cultivate a spirit of social ethics and social contribution)
