The 61st Antarctic Expedition (November 2019 to January 2021) succeeded in conducting intensive observations for the first time in the world off the coast of Totten Glacier in Antarctica, which had been considered difficult to observe. We spoke with Associate Professor Shigeru Aoki, who also served as the expedition leader, about the significance of Antarctic research and future prospects.
