Our university's Institute of Low Temperature Science will hold the 2023 Institute of Low Temperature Science Joint Research Meeting "Sea Ice-Ocean-Material Cycle-Ecosystem Linkage and Change in Shiretoko and the Sea of Okhotsk" on November 27th and 28th.

In order to clarify the relationship between sea ice, ocean, material circulation, and ecosystems in the Sea of Okhotsk, including Shiretoko, we have been conducting intensive field observations in the southern Sea of Okhotsk over the past few years. At this meeting, we will bring together the results of these studies, share new knowledge, and discuss future policies. The framework of this study group, which aims to understand the mechanisms underlying the diverse and rich marine environment of the Sea of Okhotsk, is based on the United Nations Development Programme's SDG 14, ``Protect the richness of the oceans.'' This will also lead to research that explores the direction of marine resource utilization.
