The National Institute of Polar Research, the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology, and Hokkaido University will hold the 3rd ArCS II public lecture, “The Arctic seen from the sea: talks by young researchers and students” on November 19th.

The Arctic is rapidly warming. The Arctic Ocean and its surrounding oceans are beginning to experience a variety of impacts, including a decrease in sea ice and changes in the ecosystem. Researchers working at the forefront of research and students responsible for the next generation of research, education, and outreach will discuss the reality and future of the Arctic.

In the panel discussion in the third part of this lecture, researchers who boarded the Oshoro Maru Arctic Voyage in 2023 and undergraduate students from all over the country who participated in the open training will speak about their experiences. The panelists will be Associate Professor Hiroji Ueno, Principal Researcher of Faculty of Fisheries Sciences Science, and Associate Professor Taiki Nomura Field Science Center for Northern Biosphere.
