The "Smart Agriculture Online Course" started on August 1st.
Our university has been selected as a "base school for smart agricultural education" in the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries' FY2020 smart agricultural education promotion contract project. This online course is being held as part of this initiative.
Currently, the aging of producers, lack of successors, and labor shortages are serious issues in Japan's agricultural field. At the same time, the world's population is increasing and there are concerns about food shortages.
In response to these challenges, "smart agriculture" is expected to be a technology that will support future food production.
"Smart agriculture" refers to agriculture that utilizes technologies such as ICT (information and communication technology), IoT (Internet of Things), AI (artificial intelligence), and robotics.
Utilizing these cutting-edge technologies will make it possible to eliminate labor shortages through increased efficiency and pass on the skills and know-how of skilled farmers, and will greatly change the face of agriculture.
