The University Museum will hold a fluorescence observation event for exhibited mineral specimens, including the new mineral "Hokkaido stone", on July 21st.

 

"Hokkaido stone" is a new mineral that was certified in January 2023 and was discovered in Shikaoi-cho, Kato-gun, Hokkaido and Aibetsu-cho, Kamikawa-gun, Hokkaido. It is a type of organic mineral that is rare in nature and fluoresces beautifully under ultraviolet irradiation. In conjunction with Culture Night 2023, which will also be held at the National Museum, on July 21st (Friday) from 17:00 to 21:00, mineral specimens on display in the exhibition room, including "Hokkaido Stone", will be irradiated with ultraviolet light and the state of fluorescence will be observed.
