New content, SCALLOP, is now available on the special website “Fish of the Month (FoM)*” of the Faculty of Fisheries Sciences, Hokkaido University.

Not surprisingly, familiar organisms often contribute to the solution of difficult scientific problems. The scallop is one such example. The scallop’s giant pillars have led to many unexpected discoveries about the regulation of muscle contraction and relaxation. Researchers in the Laboratory of Macromolecular Chemistry at the Faculty of Fisheries Science of Hokkaido University have contributed much to those discoveries. Professor Akira Inoue introduce these results. In addition, he has recently succeeded in discovering a number of novel enzymes from scallops.
