UArctic (the University of the Arctic), a network of educational and research institutions of which Hokkaido University is a member, is calling for students to enroll in the “Circumpolar Studies Online Course” starting from September to December, and January to April.

 

The Circumpolar Studies Online Course is an undergraduate online course on the Arctic offered by UArctic member universities through an online education system. There is no cost. The course is taught in English.

Fall Semester: September – December 2023
  • Courses
    • CS100: Introduction to the Circumpolar World
    • CS311: Land and Environment of the Circumpolar World I
    • CS321: Peoples and Cultures of the Circumpolar World I
    • CS331: Contemporary Issues of the Circumpolar World I
      * CS 100 is the prerequisite for CS 311, 321 and 331. Credits cannot be transferred.
  • Period: September – December 2023
  • Target: All students (undergraduate and graduate)
  • Course fee: Free
  • Language: English (ability to understand lectures and discussion)
Winter Semester: January – April 2024
  • Courses
    • CS100: Introduction to the Circumpolar World
    • CS312: Land and Environment of the Circumpolar World II
    • CS322: Peoples and Cultures of the Circumpolar World II
    • CS332: Contemporary Issues of the Circumpolar World II
      * CS 100 is the prerequisite for CS 322 and 332, and CS 100 and CS 311 are the prerequisites for CS 312. Credits cannot be transferred.
  • Period: January – April 2024
  • Target: All students (undergraduate and graduate)
  • Course fee: Free
  • Language: English (ability to understand lectures and discussion)

How to apply

Send the following documents to the International Relations Division (e-mail: global@oia.hokudai.ac.jp) by 17:00, July 25, 2023.

  1. Online Course Registration Form(Word)
    Complete the form in English.
    Send a PDF file of the form with your signature in the “STUDENT SIGNATURE (Required)” field and the date in the “Date” field.
  2. Proof of English proficiency (TOEIC, TOEFL, IELTS, etc.), for the applicants whose first language is not English.
  3. When submitting the above documents, please include your name (in Kanji characters, if applicable), affiliation, grade, and student number in the body of the email.
