The Japan Center for borderlands and studies (JCBS), a NPO, will hold a JCBS evening seminar on June 11 in collaboration with the “East Eurasia Studies” Slavic Eurasian Research Center (EES-SRC), Hokkaido University.
The title of this seminar is “Beyond the Rainbow: Current Status and Issues of LGBTQ in Japan.” There is a growing movement for LGBT legislation in Japan. Nevertheless, it is questionable to what extent Japanese society is seriously trying to confront this issue, such as by weakening the wording to “prohibit unfair discrimination.” Associate Professor Hyunjoo Naomi Chi, a member of the School of Public Policy, who also serves as JCBS supervisor, will be the featured speaker.
