The United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS) is launching its global human resource development program in Africa, ``Global Leadership and Sustainable African Development,'' as a four-week online course in English. We are currently recruiting students to take this course.

 

This program is run by UNU-IAS in collaboration with New York University and the University of Johannesburg, and this course is aimed at graduate students interested in Africa and international development. Students will have the opportunity to learn from African leaders (both public and private) about transformational leadership and development, participatory democracy, citizen engagement, and public policy.
The online program will feature keynotes, workshops, resource sharing, interactive activities, and more. Participants will discuss leadership and development practices with African leaders, including gender equality, the role of women and youth, peace and security, environmental justice, poverty alleviation, economic and social development, and sustainable livelihoods initiatives. You will be able to develop the skills and strategies needed to strengthen the capacity and resilience of communities and civil society, and contribute to establishing and strengthening human rights.
You will also develop the skills and strategies needed to contribute to environmentally sustainable development across Africa with the goal of achieving the SDGs.

United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS) calls for students to participate in the program “Global Leadership and Sustainable African Development” to be held from January to February 2023.

 

A four-week course focusing on Global Leadership and Sustainable Development in Africa is offered by UNU-IAS in collaboration with New York University and the University of Johannesburg, for postgraduate students working in international development with an interest in Africa. The course will provide an opportunity for participants to learn from African leaders (across the public and private sectors) about innovative leadership and development, participatory democracy, civic engagement, and public policy. The online program includes keynote lectures, workshops, resources
sharing, and participatory activities prepared by African scholars and practitioners in a wide range of fields (eg, health, education, environmental studies, human rights, law, technology, government, and civil society) from across the continent.
The use of online teaching and networking modalities will help participants engage with African leaders to discuss their leadership and development practices (ie addressing gender equity, role of women and youth, peace and security, environmental justice, poverty alleviation, economic and social development, sustainable livelihoods), and develop skills and strategies needed to strengthen the capacity and resilience of community and civil society, build and enhance human rights, and contribute to environmentally sustainable development across Africa targeting to achieve SDGs.
