UNU-IAS (United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability) will hold the "2022 ProSPER.Net* Leadership Programme" online from December 5th to 8th and 16th, 2022. UNU-IAS is currently recruiting participants for this program (deadline: October 14, 2022).

 

The program brings together young experts and emerging leaders from academia, the public sector, business and civil society under the theme 'Transitioning to Net Zero: Implementation Strategies for the Net Zero Transition', and will bring together young experts and emerging leaders from academia, the public sector, business and civil society to support the Asia-Pacific region. Explore how education and training can be used across sectors to foster a sustainable society. By incorporating climate action into leadership training, the program aims to foster climate leadership for solution-oriented action derived from effective net-zero strategies around the world.

Participants will attend lectures and workshops on a variety of topics related to strategies and policies towards achieving net zero, including energy efficiency, urban design, mass transport planning, and nature-based solutions such as reforestation and biodiversity conservation. Selection criteria

Participants will be selected based on written applications based on the following criteria:

  • Young professionals and emerging leaders in the academic, public, private and civil society sectors working in the Asia-Pacific region.
  • All ages are welcome to apply, but priority will be given to those under 35 years of age as of the application deadline.
  • High English proficiency (written and spoken)
  • Possess a strong understanding of sustainability, net zero emissions approaches, and climate change countermeasures that are relevant to your work.
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership and value teamwork.

*ProSPER.Net (Asia-Pacific Environmental Graduate Network) was launched at our university in June 2008 with funding from the Ministry of the Environment of Japan, and is an education for sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region. This is a university consortium of higher education institutions that takes the lead in promoting this. Our university has been a member since its inception and has served as a board member university for three consecutive terms since 2008, and served as a chair university from July 2010 to July 2012. In collaboration with eight higher education institutions, including United Nations organizations, we led the Alternative University Appraisal Project, which aims to develop a system for evaluating universities engaged in education.

ProSPER.Net Leadership Program (LP) will be held online on 5–8 and 16 December 2022. The application deadline is 14 October 2022 11:59 pm (JST).

Please note there is no fee to participate in this leadership program.

Selection Criteria

Participants will be selected on the basis of a written application, according to the following criteria:

  • Young professionals and emerging leaders from academic, public, private, and civil society sectors working in the Asia-Pacific region
  • All ages are eligible to apply but priority will be given to those aged 35 or under as of the application deadline
  • High proficiency in written and spoken English language
  • An advanced understanding of sustainability, net zero emissions approaches or climate action, and its relevance to his/her own work
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to work in a team environment
