Entrepreneurship education in Hokkaido, including at Hokkaido University, was featured in the August 2026 issue of Forbes JAPAN.
The magazine features an article titled "Why is 'Global from Hokkaido' flourishing? Attracting attention from overseas! The amazing power of entrepreneurship education in the northern land," which introduces the characteristics of entrepreneurship education in Hokkaido, the learning environment that encourages students to take initiative, overseas programs, and practical education in collaboration with local communities and companies. Associate Professor Shiina of the Hokkaido University Entrepreneurship Education Division is also introduced as one of the key figures in this special feature, and his educational practices that utilize the unique field of Hokkaido are also highlighted.
In Hokkaido, with Hokkaido University as the lead institution, the "HSFC (H-Force)" platform was established in 2021 to promote the creation and nurturing of R&D-oriented startups throughout the prefecture. Currently, it has grown into a network of industry, academia, government, and finance, including more than 20 universities, technical colleges, and vocational schools, as well as local governments, financial institutions, and major regional companies. It promotes the development of a support system necessary for everything from discovering research seeds to subsequent entrepreneurship and business expansion.
