We are pleased to announce that we are now accepting applications for our Archaeology (Pottery) Parataxonomist Training Course (Beginner Level).

【overview】

Pottery not only serves as a container, but because it is made from clay, a highly malleable material, it has the property of easily reflecting the intentions of the maker and various information about the society to which they belonged.

This course will provide an overview of methods for extracting information from pottery, and then guide you through observing and recording actual artifacts to develop an archaeological understanding of pottery.

Furthermore, I would like you to deepen your understanding of how these factors connect to the reconstruction of the lives and societies of people at that time, using real-world examples as models.

Date: September 6, 2026 (Sunday), 10:30 AM - 4:00 PM

Location: Hokkaido University Museum 3rd Floor, Room N309 (Joint Research Room)

Capacity: 10 people

Target audience: Working adults (senior citizens welcome)

Items to bring: Writing utensils (HB pencil or ballpoint pen, eraser), old newspapers (1 or 2 sheets), reading glasses (if needed)
