Hokkaido University Museum is pleased to announce its 5th Saturday Citizen Seminar for 2026, titled "The World of Dinosaurs as Seen Through Just One Specimen."
This time, we are pleased to have Mr. Junpei Oyabu, a doctoral student in the Department of Natural History Sciences, Graduate Graduate School of Science Hokkaido University, as our speaker.
"The World of Dinosaurs as Seen Through a Single Specimen"
Dinosaur research doesn't always begin with a massive, perfect skeleton. Even a single fragmentary specimen can offer insights into the appearance, lifestyle, and even evolutionary history of dinosaurs.
This lecture will introduce two studies: one on a skull specimen of an ankylosaur discovered in Yubari, Hokkaido, and another on a lacrimal bone specimen of a theropod found during an excavation in the Gobi Desert, Mongolia. Based on these studies, I will discuss the research life of a graduate student, from excavation work to specimen observation in museums, and analysis using CT scans and computers.
