Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking Corporation and the Green Transformation Innovation Center of Hokkaido University commenced a joint research project on "Evaluation of Corporate Transition Technologies" on October 1, 2025. We are pleased to announce that the annual report related to this joint research has now been published.

This initiative is a joint research project positioned as one of several initiatives implemented under a comprehensive partnership between Hokkaido University and Mitsubishi  UFJ Trust and Banking Corporation. By integrating the research and education functions of the university with the practical expertise of the financial institution, and by  advancing human resource development, policy engagement, and social implementation in an integrated manner, the initiative aims to contribute to the realization of sustainable  society through sustainable investment (including transition investment) and the fostering of a sustainability industry.

This report aims to provide a systematic  overview of the relationship between  decarbonization technologies (transition  technologies) and key sectors, with a  focus on the sectors undergoing the  transition, in order to facilitate a holistic  understanding of their technical feasibility,  commercialization challenges, and future  positioning. Specifically, the report examines  technologies such as CO₂ capture,  hydrogen and ammonia, methanation,  biomass, and energy storage, combining  academic and technical insights from  Hokkaido University with sector analysis  and practical perspectives from financial  institutions. By visualizing the relationship between  technologies and sectors, the report  enables cross-sector comparison and  analysis. Through this framework, it aims  to serve as a catalyst for constructive  engagement with investee companies and  a wide range of stakeholders, including  policymakers.
