Hokkaido University Museum will be holding its third Saturday Citizen Seminar of the 2026 academic year, titled "Kamuysaurus and Hokkaido University."

This time, we are pleased to have Professor Yoshitsugu Kobayashi Hokkaido University Museum as our speaker.

This lecture will introduce Kamuysaurus japonicus, a dinosaur discovered in Mukawa Town, Hokkaido, in commemoration of the Kamuysaurus exhibit that opened on April 17, 2026. This species is one of Japan's most well-preserved specimens, found in marine deposits from the Late Cretaceous period (approximately 72 million years ago).

From the discovery of the complete skeleton to its excavation and eventual naming and description in 2019, this discovery was made possible through the cooperation of many researchers and the local community.

In this lecture, based on the research findings, I will outline the academic significance of this specimen, including its contribution to understanding the ecology of this dinosaur and the evolution of dinosaurs in East Asia.
