The Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) has decided on the new research projects to be adopted in the Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) program for fiscal year 2024. Two research projects from Hokkaido University have been conditionally adopted for this program.

*SATREPS is a program implemented by JST, the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED), and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as part of the strengthening of "science and technology diplomacy" that links and mutually develops science and technology and diplomacy. Based on the needs of developing countries, it promotes international joint research with a vision of social implementation (Note 2) targeting global issues in cooperation with Official Development Assistance (ODA). The purpose of this program is to acquire new knowledge and technology that will lead to the resolution of global issues and the improvement of the level of science and technology, and to create innovation through these. In addition, through this international joint research, it aims to improve the independent research and development capabilities of developing countries and build a sustainable activity system that contributes to problem solving. Furthermore, SATREPS will actively respond to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals and contribute to the international community.
