What led me to study: I was born and raised in a coastal town in eastern Hokkaido, so I was familiar with livestock and fishing from my childhood. When I started thinking about going to university, biotechnology was gaining attention, and I was interested in it myself, so I chose a university where I could study biotechnology. While conducting various experiments related to biochemistry, I found it interesting that unlike other experiments that tend to lack experimental samples, I was able to grow microorganisms myself, and I was also taken along by my laboratory teacher to grow fish. While touring a hatchery, I arrived at my current research field.
