Message: When choosing a university, you may be confused about choosing liberal arts or science majors, but the world is not divided into liberal arts and science majors. When trying to figure out something you don't understand, the approach you need is either a liberal arts approach or a science approach. In that respect, farmers are engineers, managers, philosophers, and scientists. Learning from both the humanities and sciences is useful when trying to understand agriculture. I hope that you will connect your inner feelings of ``why?'' and ``this is what I want to know'' to learning.

Professor Kobayashi's research is introduced in ``Lecture given by Hokkaido University faculty members, ``What is the crisis in Hokkaido dairy farming?'' *Move to Yume Navi.
