The University Museum will hold the 8th Saturday Citizen Seminar, ``Large short-necked plesiosaurs of Hokkaido: Pliosaurs'' on November 11th.
This time's theme is "Large short-necked plesiosaurs of Hokkaido: pliosaurs." Fossils of pliosaurids have been discovered in four locations in Hokkaido in Japan, and the pliosaurid from Haboro, which is housed in the Hokkaido University Museum, dates from the Turonian period (approximately 90 million years ago) in the late Cretaceous period. Many parts were discovered, including parts of the body, vertebrae, and more than a dozen rib fragments. In this seminar, we will introduce what has been revealed from research on the fossils of this pliosaur.
