Our university's Ainu and Indigenous Research Center will hold the 2023 monthly lecture, "Understanding the intersection of 'social models' and Ainu research," on November 7th.
The social model uses "society" as the key to three aspects of the difficulties felt by minorities: "causing factors (why they occur)," "means for eliminating them (how to eliminate them)," and "responsibility for eliminating them (who takes action)." The idea is to try to understand it in words. This idea, born from research on disabilities, is beginning to be applied to solving problems faced by LGBTQ people and ethnic minorities.
In this lecture, the lecturer, Mr. Iino, will introduce the basic idea of the social model and teaching materials and class practices for elementary school students. In the latter part, we will use a dialogue format to consider the possibility of incorporating social model thinking into Ainu policies, research, and learning.
