Hokkaido University Museum will hold the 7th Saturday Citizen Seminar of 2023, “Natural Time Capsules: Ancient Insect Fossils in Amber” on October 7th.

This Saturday's citizen seminar is about "Amber". Also known as amber, it is fossilized plant resin over many years, and is also produced in Japan. A particularly interesting feature of amber is that it can contain ancient plants and animals. Because they are originally made of resin, they are preserved three-dimensionally even when they become fossils, and sometimes even their fine structures can be observed. In that respect, amber can truly be called a semi-permanent ``natural time capsule.'' In this seminar, we will focus on amber and mainly introduce our research results regarding insect fossils.
