Our Faculty of Humanities and Human Sciences, Applied Ethics and Philosophy Research and Education Center will hold a public symposium titled "What does it mean to 'understand' LGBTQ?" on October 14th.

These days, I see the word "understanding" LGBTQ in various places. Although the LGBT Understanding Promotion Act, which was enacted in June of this year, has been met with various criticisms, the message of ``understanding'' LGBTQ people is often expressed in corporate seminars and lectures at educational institutions. Additionally, through social activities such as pride parades, LGBTQ people have aimed to seek ``understanding'' about themselves, who have been made invisible. However, it is also necessary to go back to the concept of "understanding" and consider what it means to "understand" LGBTQ people in the first place, and in what sense "understanding" is or is not necessary. Dew. In this symposium, we would like to examine the complexity and possibilities of "understanding" LGBTQ by incorporating analyzes from political, philosophical, and sociological perspectives.
