Our University's Center for Advanced Tourism Studies will be co-hosting the International Symposium ``The Challenges of Indigenous Tourism'' with the Ainu Cultural Foundation, National Museum of Ethnology, and Tourism Canada.
When indigenous peoples practice their unique culture with peace of mind and proactively communicate it to the outside world, it not only promotes understanding and interest in indigenous peoples, but also serves as a driving force for deepening pride and confidence as a community. In this symposium, the Ainu, an indigenous people living in the North Pacific, and the indigenous peoples of Canada's West Coast will have a dialogue and learn from each other about the relationship between cultural inheritance and tourism for the future. The purpose of this study is to consider the role of indigenous tourism, which is a powerful means of creating a cohesive society.
