On the September 23rd episode of STV's (Sapporo Television Broadcasting) information program "Dosanko Wide 179," the "Big Snow Creatures Illustrated Encyclopedia Project*" that Professor Teiji Watanabe Faculty of Environmental Earth Science is working on was broadcast.
The broadcast is available on YouTube. Please see here.
*The "Big Snow Creatures Encyclopedia Project" is an ecosystem observation project sponsored by Kamikawa Town and supported by Faculty of Environmental Earth Science of our university. The environment in which living creatures live in Mt. Daisetsu is in danger due to permafrost melting due to global warming. There are also concerns that the increasing number of mountain climbers will destroy nature. The project was started with the aim of achieving both environmental protection and tourism promotion. Climbers can collect nature data by downloading a smartphone app and posting photos. The collected information on the creatures will be provided to our university and will be used for future vegetation surveys and research.
