"WELCOME Project Stakeholder Workshop 2022" co-sponsored by Research Faculty of Agriculture and the Global Center for Food, Water, and Soil Resources will be held on August 23 (Japan time).

Lake Kariba, one of the world's largest man-made lakes and located on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe, is an important source of energy for sub-Saharan Africa through hydroelectric power generation. On the other hand, fishing, tourism, and agriculture are developing, and the population in the surrounding urban areas is also increasing. In order to increase the sustainability of Lake Kariba and the watershed that supports its water resources, there is a need to establish methods to assess the health of the people, animals, soil, and plants that live there.

In this workshop, researchers from different fields and countries gather to understand the environment and people's lives around Lake Kariba, and to talk with local Lake Kariba users to discuss the challenges faced by Lake Kariba and its challenges. We will discuss sustainability evaluation methods needed to solve the problem.
