On March 18, 2022, the 2nd Future Earth Japan Summit 2022 "How should Future Earth tackle the Anthropocene" was held online.

This event is sponsored by the Future Earth Japan Committee, an international research collaboration platform whose mission is to accelerate the movement towards a sustainable society through research and innovation. That's it. Future Earth believes that a sustainable society can be realized through research, innovation, and collaboration with society. Future Earth harnesses the experience and wisdom of thousands of scientists and innovators around the world, accelerating research and working with networks to generate innovative ideas and turn knowledge into action. Future Earth's mission is to accelerate the world's transition to a sustainable society through research and innovation.

At our university, we have formed the Hokkaido University FE Consortium (HUFEC) with departments and researchers interested in Future Earth and SDGs, and we are active members of the Future Earth Japan Committee.

At this event, Professor Taro Yamauchi (Faculty of Health Sciences) served as the moderator for the discussion, and Professor Fujio Onishi (Arctic Research Center) spoke at the breakout session.

 

Event overview

At the end of last year, COP26 was held in Glasgow, UK, and the movement to tackle the climate crisis has become more active than ever, including among many young people around the world. Future Earth, which aims to collaborate and collaborate between science and society, aims to guide the future direction of global society toward a decarbonized society and how to tackle the critical situation of the global environment symbolized by the Anthropocene.
