Faculty of Medicine at Hokkaido University opened a Science Cafe on Monday, June 29, 2026.

Faculty of Medicine was selected for the "FY2025 Medical Research Support Program, Comprehensive Type," and members of the "Medical Research AI Support Division" of the Graduate Faculty of Medicine 's Collaborative Research Center, which was newly established to promote this project with a grant from the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED), took the lead in developing the concept for the Science Cafe.

The Science Cafe is one of the key pillars of this project, providing a casual space for researchers to interact and generate new ideas while enjoying coffee or other beverages. It is hoped that through "casual conversations" that transcend the boundaries of specialized fields, job titles, and years of experience, new ideas, interdisciplinary research themes, and opportunities for collaborative research will emerge.

At Faculty of Medicine, we will utilize the Science Cafe, a new platform for interaction, to deepen connections among researchers, improve research capabilities through the use of AI and data, promote interdisciplinary collaboration, and work towards the further advancement of medical research.
