On Wednesday, July 29, Hokkaido University held an opening ceremony at the Creative Science Research Building for its new Semiconductor Prototyping Lab, which will serve as a leading base for "education through practical process training" and "research and development of next-generation semiconductors."
This lab has been established as a new base to lead "education through practical process training" and "research and development of next-generation semiconductors." The facility is equipped with a high-precision cleanroom rated "ISO Class 5/Class 7" to accommodate advanced microfabrication. In the future, we plan to sequentially install major equipment that will enable design, front-end processing, back-end processing, and evaluation by the end of fiscal year 2027. The development is being carried out with support from the Cabinet Office's "Local University and Regional Industry Creation Grant Program" and with the cooperation of relevant local governments including Hokkaido, Sapporo City, and Chitose City, and is expected to be completed by the end of fiscal year 2027.
Hokkaido University will serve as a core institution for human resource development and practical research and development related to semiconductors, aiming to contribute to national and regional industrial policy and the revitalization of local communities.
