The Uehara Oceanography Division, Department of Marine Bioresource Sciences, Faculty of Fisheries Sciences, Hokkaido University, will hold the "Operation UMI Symposium (Hokkaido University 150th Anniversary Project)" on Saturday, October 10, 2026.

 

This symposium will invite researchers active in a wide range of fields, from southern Hokkaido to around the world, to present the latest research findings on changes in the ocean due to global warming. Furthermore, the panel discussion aims to foster interest in marine science among young people, as well as contribute to future fisheries resource management and marine environmental conservation.

What is Operation UMI?
This project brings together Hokkaido University, the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University to jointly promote education and research in the field of oceanography.
