The Center for Biological Tissue Structure Analysis, Graduate Research Faculty of Agriculture, Hokkaido University, and ABiS (Advanced Bioimaging Support Platform, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research "Academic Transformation Area Research (Formation of Academic Research Support Infrastructure)") will be holding OPT Hokkaido 2026 Autumn Sapporo - Microscope Optics Practical Training from the Basics.
With the remarkable advancements in imaging technology, it has become possible to observe ultrastructures and molecular dynamics within living organisms that were previously difficult to observe, as well as to measure the microenvironment. However, when applying these imaging technologies to research, a lack of a proper understanding of microscopes in the first place can lead to unexpected pitfalls.
This training course aims not just to teach you how to use a microscope, but to teach you the principles behind why we can observe minute structures through a microscope,toexaminethemicroscope's optical system, and then to learn through hands-on practice of assembling a microscope's optical systemyourself.
This course will consist of on-demand lectures (recordings of OPT lectures conducted at the National Institute for Basic Biology in 2025) and practical assembly sessionswhere participants will assemble actual kits on-site (in the Faculty School of Agriculture laboratory).
