The Department of Marine Bioresource Science, Graduate School of Fisheries Chemistry, Hokkaido University, will be hosting a marine science café titled "The Charms of Familiar Marine Life: Once They Attach, They Don't Move!? The Mysterious Ecology of Barnacles."
If you go to the beach, you can see barnacles clinging tightly to the rocks. Once barnacles attach to a rock, they cannot move. However, precisely because they cannot move, they have various "techniques" to survive in that place and reproduce.
This time, we'll talk about the fascinating life of barnacles and the charm of familiar marine creatures. We'll also introduce how to distinguish between different species of barnacles and seashells by actually holding them in our hands, and share tips and ways to enjoy observing marine life.
This summer, why not experience the wonders of marine life?
