The Hokkaido University Institute for the Advancement of Sustainability, in collaboration with Sapporo City, Hosei University, and Kansai University, will be holding the "Government-Academia Collaboration Program: Carbon Neutral Summer Short-Term Learning Program" on August 25th (Tue) and September 2nd (Wed) to 4th (Fri).

 

This program includes lectures on carbon neutrality, group work, group presentations, and field trips. Through participation in the program, you can acquire: ① knowledge of carbon neutrality, ② diversity through collaborative work with others, and ③ practical skills to take action for the benefit of society. In addition to students from Hokkaido University, students from other universities such as Hosei University and Kansai University will also participate in the program. You can broaden your own perspective through dialogue with students from other universities.

Program Overview
  • Government-academia collaboration program: "Carbon Neutral Summer Short-Term Learning Program"
  • Theme: Carbon Neutrality Utilizing Regional Characteristics – A Comparison of Hokkaido, Osaka, and Tokyo
  • Fieldwork locations: Hokkaido (planned locations: Tomakomai City, Ishikari City, Sapporo City)
  • Target audience: All faculties and all academic years at Hokkaido University
  • Capacity: Approximately 10 people
    *Students from Hosei University and Kansai University will also participate, bringing the total number of participants to approximately 30.
  • Program Schedule:
    • Pre-course preparation: August 25, 2026 (Tuesday), 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM *Online
    • Fieldwork: September 2nd (Wed) - 4th (Fri), 2026
      *During the fieldwork period, travel will start from Sapporo City.

      • Wednesday, September 2nd
        Through fieldwork within Sapporo City, participants will learn about carbon neutrality initiatives that leverage Sapporo's unique regional characteristics, deepening their understanding of renewable energy introduction and the utilization of local resources.
      • Thursday, September 3rd
        We will receive an explanation and tour of the hydrogen facilities, CCS, and ammonia co-firing at Hokkaido Electric Power Company's Tomatoh-Atsuma Power Plant. In the afternoon, we will receive an explanation and tour of the gas turbine power generation and wind power generation at the Kita Gas Ishikari Power Plant.
      • Friday, September 4th
        We will be holding a workshop on the Hokkaido University campus.
  • Participation fee: Free
    *The participation fee includes transportation to the fieldwork site on the 3rd (chartered bus), accommodation in Sapporo city from the 2nd to the 4th (Sapporo International Youth Hostel, breakfast included), dinner on the 4th (social gathering), and fees for visiting each facility.
    *Please note that you are responsible for your own transportation costs, including round-trip transportation from your home to the meeting place in Sapporo on the 2nd, as well as any other expenses not included above, such as meals and transportation costs.
    *Insurance coverage is provided by the Student Education and Research Accident and Injury Insurance.
