The Global Research Unit for Indigenous and Cultural Diversity (GRID) at the Ainu and Indigenous Studies Center, Hokkaido University, will be holding a lecture series, Vol. 1, titled "The Foundations of Indigenous Policies in Taiwan: Development, Nationalization, and Historical Responsibility."
【overview】
How has the existence of Taiwan's indigenous people been positioned by the state and mainstream society? How does contemporary Taiwanese indigenous policies relate to the practices and discourse of the indigenous peoples themselves, as well as how the state and mainstream society accept historical responsibility?
This lecture will trace the outlines of Taiwan's indigenous policies from a long-term perspective and consider the underlying issues. Drawing on Taiwan's experience, I hope to explore ways to reconsider the issues of colonialism and racism as questions we must address ourselves today.
