The Hokkaido University Institute for the Promotion of Business-Regional Collaboration will be hosting a three-day practical program, "Learning about Regional Issue Solving in the Northern Land: A Camp," which is open to undergraduate and graduate students from outside Hokkaido.

This program brings together students from all over Japan in Sapporo to work on themes related to regional issues and regional innovation in Hokkaido. Through fieldwork and group work, students will experience the process of identifying problems on-site, generating solutions from diverse perspectives, and finally presenting them as proposals. For students from outside Hokkaido in particular, Hokkaido itself becomes a major learning environment. It is a valuable opportunity to practically challenge themselves to generate ideas while encountering real-world regional issues, resources, and connections with businesses that cannot be obtained in regular classes or research labs.

The program provides participants with an understanding of the fundamentals of social entrepreneurship, how to approach local issues, and fieldwork methodologies. Based on on-site research, they define problems and work on creating and presenting solutions. They can deepen their learning through practical experience while receiving feedback from experts and business representatives. Last year, students from universities across Japan, including the University of Tokyo, Chuo University, and Kyushu University, participated. It is a valuable learning opportunity for students with diverse backgrounds to interact and address local issues.

Furthermore, this program is free of charge. In addition, HBA Co., Ltd. will cover round-trip airfare and accommodation costs for students from outside Hokkaido. The program secretariat will handle the arrangements for airfare and hotel accommodation, making it easy for students from outside Hokkaido to apply. (Personal expenses incurred outside of this program are the responsibility of the participant.)

If you are interested in regional or social issues, want to learn on the ground through fieldwork, want to learn practically in Hokkaido, or want to turn new ideas into reality while collaborating with companies and students from other universities, please join us.
