The Ainu and Indigenous Studies Center at Hokkaido University will hold a lecture entitled "Marup Barrack: The Importance of the Indigenous Student Center at the University of Melbourne" on Wednesday, May 27th.
[Overview] What is a "safe space" on a university campus?
This refers to an environment that provides a safe and secure environment, both physically and sometimes mentally, for students, especially those belonging to social minority groups, so that they can feel free from discrimination and marginalization.
At our university, "safe spaces"—environments where various ethnic and racial minorities, such as the Ainu, an indigenous people, can feel safe—are becoming increasingly important.
We will be inviting two lecturers from the University of Melbourne in Australia to introduce their work.
