Faculty of Fisheries Sciences at Hokkaido University has concluded a cooperation agreement with Kazamaura Village in Aomori Prefecture with the aim of contributing to the development of the local fisheries industry, as well as to the training of related personnel and the advancement of academic research.
This agreement will deepen cooperation under a comprehensive partnership in a wide range of fields, including academic research and human resource development.
The relationship between the two parties is deep. Since Associate Professor Nakaya of our university began resource research on the "Kiankou," a local specialty of the village, in 2016, surveys and research have been conducted in Kazamaura Village for a long time. To date, exchanges that go beyond the scope of research have been accumulated, including cooperation on the village's branding strategy and the holding of "fisheries classes" at local elementary schools.
With the signing of this agreement, it is expected that efforts to address regional issues, such as research on Japanese flying squid, seaweed surveys, and measures against coastal barrenness, will be further accelerated, in addition to the anglerfish research that has been conducted so far.
