Hokkaido University's Center for Natural Hazards Research and Shintotsukawa Town have signed a cooperation agreement to collaborate on initiatives that contribute to disaster prevention and mitigation measures for wide-area complex disasters caused by floods, landslides, earthquakes, etc., and to promote the development of personnel with specialized knowledge, with the aim of reducing damage during large-scale disasters.

The Hokkaido University Center for Natural Hazards Research has previously exchanged opinions with Shintotsukawa Town and, in fiscal year 2025, provided support for human resource development through participation in a recurrent education program for town employees. Moving forward, in order to smoothly carry out research activities that contribute to mitigating damage from wide-area complex disasters in Shintotsukawa Town and its surrounding areas, as well as awareness-raising activities regarding disaster prevention for local residents, a cooperation agreement has been concluded to strengthen efforts to mitigate damage during large-scale disasters.
