The Hokkaido University Graduate Faculty of Engineering Endowed Field of Circular Innovation and the Graduate Faculty of Engineering Circular Symbiosis Systems Laboratory will hold the 3rd Hokkaido University Endowed Field of Circular Innovation Seminar on Wednesday, March 18th, entitled "The Future of General Waste Treatment and Recycling in Hokkaido - Challenges of the Circular Economy and Proper Treatment."
The circular economy has been set out as a national strategy to achieve both environmental conservation and economic growth, and there is a desire to build a sustainable society that is carbon neutral and nature positive. While a wide variety of initiatives that are different from those in the past are being promoted, many issues have come to light for local governments responsible for the proper disposal and recycling of general waste, including population decline, aging, financial difficulties, labor shortages, and aging facilities.
In addition, there is an increasing risk of disasters such as earthquakes around the Japan Trench and the Kuril Trench, as well as heavy rain and snow.Against this background and challenges, we have created a forum to share a wide range of issues with you and think about how to improve them, including how to create a circular economy that is unique to Hokkaido, how to properly dispose of disaster waste in normal times, and even how to sort waste and recover resources.
The event will be held both in person and online, so we look forward to seeing many of you there.
