The East Asian Media Studies Center, affiliated with the Graduate Research Faculty of Media and Communication, Hokkaido University, will hold a seminar on Monday, March 23rd, entitled "Humanities Scholars Discuss 'Golden Kamuy' and Its Surrounding History: The Potential of Media and Historical Research."

What history is depicted in "Golden Kamuy," and what history is not depicted? Using the manga (anime) "Golden Kamuy" as a starting point, four humanities researchers will discuss the appeal of the work and the history of the Ainu people and their surrounding areas in the same era from the specialized perspectives of legal systems, minorities, performing arts, and tourism research.

We will also explore the potential of media works such as "Golden Kamuy" in historical research.
