The East Asia Media Studies Center, affiliated with the Graduate Research Faculty of Media and Communication Hokkaido University, will host a Japan-Korea Solidarity Forum entitled "Places Left Behind, Memories Recounted: Thinking from the Perspectives of the Cold War, Empire, and Region" on Friday, February 27th.

Postwar decolonization in East Asia became caught up in a cycle of violence that combined imperialism with the Cold War structure. With the collapse of the Cold War system marking a world-historical turning point, we have faced the challenge of overcoming an era of violence, restoring justice, and achieving reconciliation, but this task remains incomplete.
Together, we will explore how memories and narratives have been generated, translated, and collided in the "places that remain" within the structures of war, empire, and the Cold War.
