Communication in Science & Technology Education & Research Program (CoSTEP) (CoSTEP), Hokkaido University's Institute for the Advancement of Higher Education will hold a symposium on Saturday, March 7th, as a special graduation program to reflect on the past year of learning at CoSTEP. The symposium will be titled "Raising, Showing, and Communicating about Animals - Thinking about Zoos as Places from the Perspective of Breeding, Landscaping, and Exhibits."
This symposium will feature Kenji Wakao, a zoo designer who has led the way in habitat displays at zoos across the country from the perspective of landscaping and landscape architecture, and Naoya Honda, who has worked as a livestock technician for many years and is currently involved in exhibit environment design and ex situ conservation.
The panel discussion will focus on "Landscaping and Zoos," "Habitat Exhibits," and "Relationships between Humans and Animals," and will discuss what zoos communicate and what visitors have received.
